Earlsboro’s Lady Wildcats forged a 23-9 halftime lead en route to dropping Macomb, 47-28, in Tuesday’s first-round action of the Tri-County Tournament at Oklahoma Baptist’s Noble Complex.
Earlsboro head coach Gary Anderson was less than impressed.
“We just flat out didn’t play very well,” said Anderson. “I think some of that came from the fact that we didn’t have a full practice before the game. We only had a walk-through, and a lot of times when that happens, we tend to come out flat.”
Anderson is hopeful for a better performance in Thursday’s semifinals.
“We’ll be able to get in a few practices before our next game, and I think we’ll bounce back and be ready to go Thursday,” he said.
The Lady Wildcats (18-2) will contest Wellston at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the semis.
Brittany Coon led the Lady Wildcats, and the game, with 16 points. Teammate Megan Ashley chipped in with 15, and Kourtney Jones and Demi Coon came through with seven apiece.
Jones went 3-for-5 on free throws, and Ashley rounded out Earlsboro’s charity tosses at 2-for-4. Macomb hit eight of 15 attempts as Brittany Bluford went 3-for-6.
Macomb leading scorer Shania Pace was 2-for-3 on foul shots, and she dropped in two long-range field goals in garnering 14 total points.
Earlsboro, ranked 10th in Class B, led 31-14 after three quarters.
Wellston earned a semifinals berth by dropping Allen 48-39 Tuesday. Lakota Thompson spearheaded Wellston’s Lady Tigers with a game-high 24 points Tuesday, including 13 in the first half. She finished at 10-for-13 on free throws.
Beyla Sutton led Allen with 21.
