The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, hss announced that Charles Wesley Sims, 35, of Snyder, Texas, pled guilty to Uttering a Counterfeit Instrument.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Seminole Police Department and the United States Secret Service. The defendant was indicted in November, 2012.
The Indictment alleged that on or about Nov. 23, 2012, in Seminole County, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant, with intent to defraud, did pass, utter, publish and sell to Wal-Mart a falsely made, forged and counterfeited Obligation of the United States, that is: five dollar Federal Reserve Notes altered to appear to be in the denominations of one-hundred dollar Federal Reserve Notes, which he then knew to be falsely made, forged and counterfeited.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled following its completion.
The statutory range of punishment is not more than 20 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine.
