  • Bedford 'B.E.' Murphy

  • HEALDTON — Services for Bedford "B.E." Murphy, 71, of Healdton, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Healdton, Okla., with the Rev. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall, Okla.
    Bedford was born February 12, 1941, in Ada, Okla., to Bedford F. and Montie Ines (Scott) Murphy. He passed from this life on Monday, January 21, 2013.
    Bedford was raised in Stonewall, Okla., moving to Rush Springs, Okla., in 1957 and graduating in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation, serving two years at Fort Sill. He married Betty Anderson on December 24, 1961, in Rush Springs, making their home in Yukon for a while.
    Upon being discharged in 1962, he was employed with Western Electric in Oklahoma City until April of 1963 then he was employed with Continental Oil Company, transferring to Healdton, where he worked until retiring in 1993. After that, he was employed by J.D. Lewis Construction, retiring in 2010 due to his health.
    Bedford played basketball throughout his years in school and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He had a great love for animals and surprised his children with several species. Betty referred to her house as the Healdton Zoo on several occasions.
    Bedford was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
    Preceding Bedford in death were his parents; two brothers, John and Frank Murphy; a sister, Shirley Ann (Murphy) Daniel; and a nephew, Kenton Lance Murphy.
    He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; daughter, Belynda and son-in-law, Fred II, Ardmore; son, Bryce Murphy and daughter-in-law, Stacey, Weatherford; daughter, Betenia Murphy, Healdton; grandsons, Austin Bridges, Ardmore; and Colton Murphy, Weatherford; granddaughter, Tiffany Tayar, Edmond; great-granddaughters, Ava, Lilla and Afton Holden, Edmond; and several nieces and nephews.
    Pallbearers will be Bryce Murphy, Toby Price, Fred Tayar II, Mike Puckett, Chris Humphrey and Jim Hoggard.
    Honorary bearers will be Jim Lewis, Tom Worsham, Jerry Goodwin, Odis Blakemore, Waymon King, Jim Hill and Chad Puckett.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Healdton.
    Family will receive friends from 6 - 7:30 this evening at the funeral home.
