  • It wasn’t pretty but Tecumseh earned its fourth straight victory with a 60-52 decision over Lindsay in opening-round play of the Jones Invitational Thursday.

Tecumseh, 15-2, led 31-22 at the intermission but held just a two-point lead with six minutes remaining.

“We didn’t play very well defensively,” Tecumseh coach Eric Litherland said. “Give Lindsay credit. Their kids didn’t fold when they were down early and they made the game really close.”

Scoring in double figures for Tecumseh were Alan Brewer (15), Julio Hukill (13), Colton Owen (11) and Dakota Davis (10).

The victorious Savages were just 1-of-12 from beyond the 3-point line and 24-of-55 overall from the floor.
Hukill collared a team-high 13 rebounds and Davis posted seven.

Tecumseh was 11-of-17 from the charity stripe.
The Savages will play at 4:30 p.m. today in a semifinal game versus Elk City.

In earlier Jones Invitational action Thursday, Tecumseh’s girls trailed Lindsay just 23-22 at the half but went on to absorb a 53-37 defeat in first-round action.

Lindsay, ranked 11th in Class 3A, outscored Tecumseh 19-6 in the third quarter.

“We got really cold shooting the ball in the third quarter,” Tecumseh coach Amy Shelby said. “The shots we were making in the first half weren’t falling in the third quarter.”

Sam Schovanec of Tecumseh was 7-of-8 from the field in scoring a team-high 14 points. Schovanec added three rebounds and two steals. Teammate Sutv Meely collected six assists and three steals to go along with four points.

Tecumseh, 5-12, hit just one of 10 shots from 3-point range.

Tecumseh will continue Invitational action at 6 p.m. today by playing Perry, a first-round loser to Harrah.
