  • Sam Schovanec and Sutv Meely combined for 21 points and 11 steals as Tecumseh claimed a hard-fought 40-36 victory over Perry in the consolation semifinals of the Jones Invitational Friday.

“Defensively, Sutv and Sam were able to force quite a few turnovers,” THS head coach Amy Shelby said. “It gets easier to win games when you can do that defensively.”

As a team, the Lady Savages recorded 14 steals.

Schovanec notched 11 points and four steals, while Meely’s 10 points, seven steals and three assists helped the Lady Savages (6-12) pull away in the fourth quarter.

The game was tied heading into the final stanza after Tecumseh played uphill for most of the game. An 11-7 fourth-quarter run helped the Lady Savages pull out the win.

Perry’s Whitley Mack paced her team with 12 points, while Megan Brake chipped in eight.

Hilary Babbitt scored eight for Tecumseh, which finds itself in the consolation final for fifth place against tourney host Jones today at 10 a.m.
