Senior Dustin Stark will likely never forget the shooting night he recorded Saturday as his fifth-ranked Dale squad blitzed Allen 80-47 in the championship game of the Tri-County Tournament at OBU.
Stark canned nine of his 10 shots from the floor, including all seven of his 3-point attempts, as the Pirates improved to 17-3. He had four treys in the opening half.
Stark, with 25 points, wasn’t even Dale’s leading scorer. That honor went to Most Valuable Player Evan Anderson, who compiled 26 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Dale, up 43-26 at the intermission, put the knockout punch on the Mustangs with a 21-8 third-quarter.
Dale coach Jeff Edmonson had all of his starters out of the game early in the final quarter and emptied his bench. Brandon Thompson added eight points for the Pirates and teammates Tanner Nelson and Jace Wilkins finished with seven points apiece.
Dale sank 52 percent (31-of-60) of its field goals, including a 64 percent (9-of-14) effort from beyond the 3-point line.
Dale spanked Allen on the boards, 35-14. Allen was just 3-of-13 from the 3-point line for 23 percent.
“We shot the ball well,” Edmonson said. “I liked the way we came out at the start of the game with a lot of intensity and we played really hard on defense. We were able to create turnovers.’
Wilkins was the game’s assists leader with 10.
Dale will travel to Christian Heritage Tuesday. Earlsboro’s squads are idle until Friday, Feb. 1 when they play at Mason.
