The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, has announced that James Edward , 41, of Glendale, Ariz., pled guilty to an Information charging him with Making False Statement.
Charges arose from an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General.
The Information alleged that on or about Nov. 8, 2010, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant, did willfully and knowingly make and cause to be made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement and representation in a matter within the jurisdiction of a department or agency of the United States, that is, by stating and representing on a United States Postal Service Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note that the contents of a postal package was an “Airsoft Toys Display,” when in truth and fact, as defendant well knew, the postal package contained a sniper rifle barrel, rifle stock, trigger guard, and a US Marine Corp technical manual.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled following its completion.
The statutory range of punishment is not more than 5 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine. The defendant remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending imposition of sentence.
