The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will go head to head in this Sunday's Super Bowl - but, let's face it, half the people who tune in will primarily be interested in the commercials rather than the game. A fun fact: in recent years, companies have increasingly elected to premiere their spots online before they air during the broadcast.
This year's Super Bowl will feature all the usual ad staples, from companies like Budweiser, E-Trade, Pepsi, and just about every car manufacturer you can name, according to Business Insider. Amy Poehler will shill for Best Buy. Doritos is holding a contest to let viewers decide which two ads will run during the game. And some of the spots have predictably already generated controversy, like a Coca-Cola ad that some are calling racist.
Here's a selection of some of the promos that will air Sunday:
-Coca-Cola Desert Oasis: Some groups are claiming that this ad is racist in its depiction of Arab-Americans. "Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?" wondered Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC, according to Reuters. What do you think of the promo?
-Kate Upton's Mercedes Ad: Kate Upton's much-hyped Mercedes commercial may prove disappointing for many viewers, seeing as how the Sports Illustrated model only appears in the ad for about five seconds. But at least those disappointed people can still watch the original teaser over and over. Check out the full ad, which also features Usher and Willem Dafoe:
