  • Shawnee boys take Suburban Conference title

  • Shawnee’s boys notched the Suburban Conference title Thursday with 149 team points, and the Lady Wolves narrowly missed the same feat as they were edged by Carl Albert, 117-103.

  • Shawnee’s boys notched the Suburban Conference title Thursday with 149 team points, and the Lady Wolves narrowly missed the same feat as they were edged by Carl Albert, 117-103.
     
    The Shawnee girls had only five participants for the day, and they were allowed to compete in only two relays. The Lady Wolves led up until the 400-yard freestyle relay, in which they were not allowed to enter.
     
    Carl Albert was the boys’ runner-up at 136 points.
     
    The Wolves got a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with Jon Matanane, Sean Winegardner, Cade Chlouber and Mark Roselius. They recorded a conference-record time of 1:46.72.
     
    Roselius and Chlouber were first and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle, and Roselius was also first in the 100 freestyle. Weston Foote took third in the 100, and Chlouber was second in the 100 butterfly.
     
    Winegardner was second in the 200 individual medley, and Matanane was third in the 200-yard freestyle.
     
    Foote and Matanane tied for second in the 100 backstroke, and Winegardner was second in the 100 breaststroke. Logan Schultz was third in that event.
     
    Chlouber, Matanane, Foote and Roselius were first in the 200 freestyle relay, missing a new conference record by 0.19 seconds.
     
    The Wolves took second in the 400 freestyle relay with Michael Heon, Rohr Raney, Branden Duff and Winegardner.
     
    For the Lady Wolves, Kaitlin Hampton picked up first place and a state-qualifying time of 1:10.05 in the 100-yard backstroke, and Veronica Ortiz notched first place and a state-qualifying time of 1:19.72 in the 100 breaststroke.
     
    Hampton was also first in the 100 butterfly with a state-qualifying time of 1:08.87.
     
    Myranda Troup was first in the 50 freestyle, and Ortiz was second in the 200 freestyle.
     
    The Lady Wolves were first in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay with the crew of Troup, Ortiz, Hampton and Breanna Barnett.
     
    Magan Smith was third in the 500 freestyle.

    Shawnee is scheduled to participate in the Last Chance Meet Feb. 8 at Oklahoma City Community College.
