  • Shawnee continued to flex its top-ranked muscle as the Lady Wolves devoured Harrah 71-37 Tuesday night.

Class 5A Shawnee led by a scant 18-17 after one quarter before forging a 34-26 halftime cushion. The Lady Wolves out-distanced Class 4A’s No. 8 Lady Panthers 37-11 over the final two quarters.

“I thought our mental preparation before the game and during warm-ups was a lot better,” said SHS coach Wendi Wells. “At halftime, they listened and came out and stuck to the game plan. They did really well defensively in the second half. They stepped up and made big shots when we needed them.

    “Tonight was a full effort.”

Bailey Taylor canned four of five 3-point attempts en route to finishing with a game-high 23 points. McKenzie Cooper netted 18 points, including a 3-for-5 effort on treys, and Monique Tramble and Shaiann Tramble picked up a 3-point field goal apiece.

Shawnee was 27-for-51 (52.9 percent) from the field, including 9-for-16 on 3-pointers. The Lady Wolves were 8-for-11 (72.7 percent) on free throws.

Micaela Yu and Kelsey Simmons corralled five rebounds apiece, and Simmons added five assists and three steals.

“What she did defensively — she wreaked havoc,” Wells said of Simmons. “She played great defensively.”
Yu picked up 16 points as Shawnee improved to 19-1.

The Lady Wolves will host third-ranked Carl Albert at 6:30 p.m. Friday to close out the home portion of their regular season.
