  • A fourth-quarter lull sealed Shawnee’s fate Friday as Class 5A’s No. 20 Wolves suffered a 59-50 senior night setback to Suburban Conference foe and fourth-ranked Carl Albert at the Shawnee High School Performing Arts and Athletic Center.

The game was extremely close from the onset, with Carl Albert leading by a scant 11-10 count to start the second quarter. That margin remained as the Titans held a thin 26-25 halftime advantage, and the Wolves took their turn with a 38-37 lead to start the fourth quarter.

That’s when the home team went on a drought.

Carl Albert opened a 12-0 run to forge a 49-38 lead, and the Titans kept the Wolves off the scoreboard for more than seven and a half minutes. Senior Theo Berry snapped the dry spell with a 3-point field goal with 1:21 left to play, but the damage was done and the Wolves were unable to climb out of hole. Shawnee was out-scored 10-9 following Berry’s trey, and six of those came via Marquese Tramble and the long shot.

Berry came away with a team-high 18 points, and Tramble and Trey Maston each added 13 as the Wolves fell to 8-13 overall and 3-3 in the Suburban Conference play.

Shawnee turned the ball over 23 times Friday to 20 for Carl Albert, and the Titans made the most of 15 trips to the foul line in the second half. Carl Albert was 13-for-15 on charities in the third and fourth quarters, and was 19-for-26 (73.1 percent) for the game.

Javeion Gray and Chantz Woodberry each went 6-for-6 for the Titans in the fourth.

The Wolves were 2-for-3 on free throws, both coming from Berry.

Gray paced Carl Alber with a game-high 23 points, and teammate Jared Price added 10. Malik Barnett and Cameron Warren netted nine apiece.

Shawnee will conclude its regular season with trips to Noble (Feb. 12) and Chickasha (Feb. 15).

The Wolves will face Del City at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the first round of a Class 5A regional tournament at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City. The winner of that game will face the Carl Albert-Duncan winner at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, while the loser will conclude the season.
