  • Meeker splits games with Luther

  • Junior Cortney Edmonds had a banner shooting night from the field and the charity stripe Friday night in fueling Meeker’s girls to a 69-42 frolic over Luther, while Meeker’s boys got off to a rocky 16-8 start after one quarter and could never get over the hump in dropping a 65-56 decision to Luther.

  • Junior Cortney Edmonds had a banner shooting night from the field and the charity stripe Friday night in fueling Meeker’s girls to a 69-42 frolic over Luther.
     
    Edmonds canned all seven of her free throws and went 7-of-10 from the field en route to a game-high 22 points. She also collected eight assists, six steals and one blocked shot.
     
    Meeker (16-5) was accurate on 27 of its 53 field goal attempts for 51 percent.
     
    Taylor Standlee added 12 points for Meeker, which out-scored the visitors 20-6 in the second quarter for a commanding 36-20 intermission cushion.
     
    Summer Powell of Meeker was 2-of-3 from 3-point range and finished with eight points.
     
    Nine Lady Bulldogs scored.
     
    Meeker was 61 percent from the line at 11-of-18. Luther was at 48 percent at 10-of-21.
     
    In the nightcap, Meeker’s boys got off to a rocky 16-8 start after one quarter and could never get over the hump in dropping a 65-56 decision to Luther.
     
    Meeker fought back within 29-26 at the half and trailed 44-43 after three quarters.
     
    Timmy Whitfield and Kevin Schillng shared scoring honors for Meeker (6-15) with 18 points apiece. Schilling had Meeker’s only 3-point field goal of the game.
     
    Both squads went 12-of-17 from the free-throw line.
     
    Both Meeker squads will be at Prague Tuesday.
