Macomb gears up for regional tourney

Ariah Johnson and Kylee Saville combined for 39 points, helping Velma-Alma’s Lady Comets topple Macomb 58-37 in a Class A district tournament final Saturday.

Johnson scored 22 points to lead all scorers and push Velma-Alma to a 23-12 first quarter advantage.

The Lady Hornets closed the deficit to nine at halftime, but The Lady Comets outscored Macomb 25-13 in the second half to seal the win.

Shania Pace led the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Destiny Redmon pitched in with nine.

Macomb secured a spot in a regional tournament, which they will host, with their win over Paoli Friday.

The Lady Hornets will tip off against Agra at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
