  • Lawton native crowned Miss Black UCO

  • University of Central Oklahoma student Jeanee Canada has been crowned Miss Black UCO 2013.

  • University of Central Oklahoma student Jeanee Canada was crowned Miss Black UCO 2013 at Central’s annual scholarship pageant celebrating the intelligence, beauty, and talent of African American women.
     
    Canada, a Lawton native, is a junior majoring in broadcast journalism and public relations. Her new title qualifies her for the opportunity to represent Central at the Miss Black Oklahoma USA pageant in the fall.
     
    In addition to the trophy, crown and title, Canada received a $1,600 scholarship and a Miss Black UCO plaque.
     
    First runner-up Andrea Tharpe, a sophomore elementary education major from Tulsa, received a $400 scholarship and an official Miss Black UCO plaque.
     
    Miari Che Douglas, a junior biomedical engineering major from Moore, was named second runner-up and received a $200 scholarship as well as a plaque.
     
    Central’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the UCO Black Student Association sponsor the Miss Black UCO pageant.
