  • Tecumseh split a pair of regular-season finales Monday as the Savages improved to 20-3 overall with a 43-34 win over Purcell’s Dragons.

The Lady Savages (7-16) opened the doubleheader with a 41-20 setback.

Tecumseh’s boys, ranked fifth in Class 4A, expanded on a 13-9 first-quarter lead for a 23-16 halftime advantage. The Savages led 35-23 after three quarters.

“It was a good win for us. We needed that going into the playoffs,” said THS coach Eric Litherland. “I’m proud. The guys played well tonight.”

Tecumseh got a game-high 18 points from Alan Brewer, who went 4-for-9 from 3-point range. Dakota Davis added 11 points, and he led the Savages with eight rebounds. Julio Hukill scored nine points.

Tanner Hilton was Purcell’s ringleader at 11. Tecumseh was 7-for-13 on free throws, while the Dragons were 5-for-11.

Tecumseh is still without starter Colton Owen, who injured his ankle in an earlier game versus Seminole. Litherland said Owen’s status as far as coming back during the postseason is still questionable.

The Lady Savages trailed 9-6 after the first quarter of their game, and were down 19-11 at the break. Purcell picked up 13 third-quarter points to led 32-16 going into the fourth.

No player reached double figures for either team. Sutv Meely, Jalyn Williams and Dominique Bear led the Lady Savages with four apiece.

Tecumseh will host Star Spencer in a Class 4A district tournament Saturday. The girls will tip off at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys.
