Shawnee will vie for a state title as the Class 5A state swimming meet opens Friday at the Jenks Aquatic Center.
More than 600 swimmers, representing 72 teams, will compete in the 5A and 6A events.
Preliminary events will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday for Class 6A, and at 5 p.m. for 5A. The championship rounds will start at 10 a.m. (Class 6A) and 4:30 p.m. (Class 5A) Saturday.
The order of events is as follows, and all distances are in yards: Girls 200 medley relay; boys 200 medley relay; girls 200 freestyle; boys 200 freestyle; girls 200 individual medley; boys 200 individual medley; girls 50 freestyle; boys 50 freestyle; girls 100 butterfly; boys 100 butterfly; girls 100 freestyle; boys 100 freestyle; girls 500 freestyle; boys 500 freestyle; girls 200 freestyle relay; boys 200 freestyle relay; girls 100 backstroke; boys 100 backstroke; girls 100 breaststroke; boys 100 breaststroke; girls 400 freestyle relay; boys 400 freestyle relay.
Shawnee’s boys are the 2012-13 Suburban Conference champions.
