Konawa’s strong fourth crushes Dale
- Konawa’s boys shocked the No. 7 Pirates 52-40, while the No. 2 Lady Pirates cruised past the Lady Tigers 60-25 Saturday night.
Konawa’s Zach Snow piled up 20 points and the Tigers used an 18-5 fourth-quarter run to stymie No. 7 Dale 52-40 in a 2A district tournament final Saturday.
The Pirates (21-5) were clinging to a 35-34 lead after three quarters. Dale fought back from a 20-16 halftime deficit despite a first-quarter injury to starting point guard Jace Wilkins.
Dale head coach Jeff Edmonson said Wilkins rolled his ankle badly, but had the ankle heavily taped up and returned to the game later, though he was slowed by the injury.
Evan Anderson scored 18 points to lead Dale, while Dustin Stark added nine points on three 3-pointers.
Alex Yellowfish scored 13 points and Trent Davis added 11 for Konawa, which cemented the win by going 10-for-13 from the line in the final eight minutes.
Dale will continue postseason play in regional tournament action beginning Thursday at Wynnewood. The Pirates will take on Central-Marlow at 3 p.m.
Dale’s girls had few problems with Konawa in a 60-25 blitz.
Nine Dale players scored, led by Breck Clark with 16, Lexes Satterwhite with 14 and Jaelin Flewallen with 10.
Satterwhite knocked down three shots from 3-point range and Flewallen registered two treys.
Dale (24-1), ranked second, led 31-10 at the half. The Lady Pirates were just 15-of-49 from the floor but knocked down 23-of-28 free throws.
Konawa was 8-of-30 from the field.
“I am happy with our team intensity and effort, particularly on defense,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said.
Dale advances to a 6:30 p.m. regional tournament game Thursday at Wynnewood.
