  • Seminole’s Xavier Freeman scored a game-high 14 points as the Chieftains’ stifling defense held Byng to just eight first-half points en route to a 42-29 win in a Class 3A district tournament final Saturday night.

“That was our best defensive effort all season,” Seminole head coach Harlon House said. “It was good to get a win at Byng.”

House praised the individual efforts of Jace Cravens and Papi White on the defensive end of the floor.

“[Cravens and White] did a really good job of pressuring Byng’s guards on the perimeter, forcing turnovers and making them uncomfortable,” House said.

Cravens and White also performed well on the offensive side of the ball, going for 12 and 8 points, respectively.

Reed Wall led Byng with nine points.

Seminole built a 17-8 halftime lead and stretched it to double figures in the second half.

Now 13-10, Seminole will head to Henryetta Thursday for a regional tournament matchup with Locust Grove. That game will tip at 8 p.m.
