  • Two Shawnee relay teams claimed first place in events and the Wolves claimed a total of 27 medals the 5A state championship swim meet at the Jenks Aquatic Center Feb. 15 and 16.

Shawnee's boys finished fifth out of 24 teams with 168.5 points and the Lady Wolves placed sixth out of 21 teams with 123 points.

"We have had an exceptional season with great swimmers and a lot of leadership from our senior class — Kaitlin Hampton, Myranda Troup, Weston Foote, Guy Johnson, Jon Matanane, Rohr Raney and Mark Roselius," Shawnee coach Valerie Colburn said.

The boys 200 freestyle relay team of Cade Chlouber, Matanane, Foote and Roselius scored gold medals with a time of 1:32.05, just .42 seconds off of the 5A state record.

Chlouber, Matanane and Roselius racked up another first-place finish in the 200 medley with a time of 1:45.10. Sean Winegardner was the fourth member of the relay team.

Hampton, Veronica Ortiz, Breanna Barnett and Troup competed together in two races, taking home fifth place in the girls 200-yard medley relay and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Roselius snagged a silver medal in the boys 50-yard freestyle, while Chlouber took 13th and Foote placed 15th. Troup and Hampton finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the girls 50-yard freestyle.

Troup also took sixth place in the girls 100 freestyle, while Roselius took sixth and Matanane finished 12th on the boys' side.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Hampton claimed fifth place for the girls and Chlouber took 10th place for the boys.

In the boys 100 backstroke, Foote and Tecumseh's Kaleb Hatton finished 14th and 15th, respectively.

Hatton also competed in the boys' 200-yard freestyle race, where he finished seventh.

Hatton was Tecumseh's only competitor. The Savages finished with 14 points.

Ortiz scored a seventh-place finish for the girls in the 100 breaststroke while Winegardner claimed 11th and Logan Schultz finished 13th for the boys.

Winegardner got another 11th place finish in the 200 individual medley and an eighth-place finish as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team. Michael Heon, Branden Duff and Foote were the other members of that team.

"All the swimmers worked hard throughout the season," Colburn added. "We are extremely proud of them."
