  • Despite a 16-point production by senior Erica Hostetter, McLoud’s girls dropped a 51-38 decision to Newcastle Thursday afternoon in a Class 4A regional tournament losers bracket game.
     
    Hostetter had 14 points in the second half after McLoud trailed just 20-19 at the intermission. Newcastle took command with a 12-6 third quarter.
     
    Erin Estep recorded 12 points for McLoud and Bethanie James finished with eight.
     
    “We played well in the first half but we struggled to score in the second half,” McLoud coach Tony Nichols said.
     
    “McLoud was 9-of-17 from the free-throw line and Newcastle was 10-of-21.
     
    Brooklyn Sparks, who was injured earlier in the year, is the only other senior on McLoud’s squad.
     
    McLoud finished the year at 4-20.
