Evan Anderson exploded for 30 points and eight rebounds, teammate Dustin Stark added 16, and Dale toppled Central Marlow 77-61 in a Class 2A regional tournament losers’ bracket game Thursday.
Dale was playing without point guard Jace Wilkins, who sat out after spraining his ankle in a 52-40 district tournament loss to Konawa last weekend.
“I was proud of how we played,” Dale head coach Jeff Edmonson said. “With Jace out, we had a lot of players pick up the slack in his absence. They really stepped up.”
Dale held a seven-point halftime lead (36-29) that ballooned to 19 after the third quarter. The Pirates scored at least 16 points in every quarter.
Stark nailed four 3-pointers and pulled down a half-dozen rebounds. Fellow Pirate Caleb Banks came up just short of a double-double, dropping 14 points and dishing out nine assists.
Banks also hit two treys, while Anderson was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line for the ninth-ranked Pirates.
Dallin Ferron and Kevin Harris led the way for Central Marlow, with 21 and 19 points, respectively.
Dale advances to play the loser of Thursday’s Hydro-Eakly vs. Hinton game Friday at 3 p.m. at Rush Springs. Dale must win its next two games to advance to the area tournament.
