  • Suddenly finding themselves in an uphill battle to reach the area tournament, Tecumseh won the first of two must-win games in a Class 4A regional tournament losers’ bracket, stopping host Newcastle 60-43 Friday.

The Savages dropped a 57-46 decision to Ada at Ada — their first loss in four tries against the Cougars — to fall into the losers’ bracket at Newcastle.

The Racers and Savages were tied at 13 heading into the second quarter. Over the second and third quarters, Tecumseh outscored Newcastle 33-14 to take a commanding lead.

Alan Brewer bounced back from his six-point Thursday performance to lead all scorers with 20 points, including 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Colton Owen notched 12 points and Julio Hukill scored nine points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Brewer, Dakota Davis and Clayton Baquera each dished out four assists.

Fellow Savage Darian Permetter also knocked down a pair of treys for all six of his points.

Now 22-4, Tecumseh will face Cache today at 3 p.m. for the regional consolation crown. The winner will advance to next weekend’s area tournament.
