  • A 42-point performance from Dalton Miller was the spark for Hinton to pull away from Dale in the second half, ousting the Pirates from a Class 2A regional tournament by a 78-56 decision Friday.

“It was a disappointing loss,” Pirates head coach Jeff Edmonson said. “We planned on playing a few more weeks after this, but I’m still very proud of all that we accomplished this year.”

Dale, ranked ninth in 2A, ends the season with a 22-6 record.

Miller’s big night overshadowed a double-double from Dale’s Evan Anderson, which would turn out to be his last game in a Pirate uniform.

Anderson, a senior, scored 29 points and grabbed 10 boards. Fellow senior Dustin Stark knocked down three treys for all nine of his points.

“We are really going to miss our seniors,” Edmonson said of Anderson and Stark.

Dale’s Jace Wilkins scored eight points in his return from an ankle injury. Caleb Banks also scored eight for Dale.

Miller hit 15 field goals, including three 3-pointers, and nine of his 10 free throw attempts to lead Hinton. Teammates Tyler Crawford and Jacob Spady each scored a baker’s dozen.
