  • Earlsboro girls one win from state tourney

  • Megan Ashley scored a game-high 19 points to lead Earlsboro’s Lady Wildcats to a 51-45 win over No. 14 Varnum in the semifinal round of a Class B area tournament Friday.

  • Megan Ashley scored a game-high 19 points to lead Earlsboro’s Lady Wildcats to a 51-45 win over No. 14 Varnum in the semifinal round of a Class B area tournament Friday.
     
    The win, the Lady Wildcats’ fourth over Varnum this season, moves Earlsboro within one game of the Class B state tournament.
     
    The Lady Wildcats steadily built a 12-point lead through the first three quarters and held off a Lady Whippet rally in the fourth to claim the win.
     
    Kourtney Jones notched 10 points in support for Earlsboro, while the sister tandem of Brittany and Demi Coon each scored eight points.
     
    Heather Satawake led the Lady Whippets with 17 points.
     
    Earlsboro advanced to play Varnum with a 55-43 victory over Duke Thursday as Ashley and Jones tallied 16 points apiece. Brittany Coon added 11 points.
     
    Earlsboro scored the final 10 points of the opening half to earn a 26-16 halftime advantage.
     
    Now 26-4 and ranked 10th in Class B, the Lady Wildcats will take on the loser of Friday’s Hammon-Erick matchup at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the state tournament.
     
    The Hammon-Erick winner will also advance to state.
