A red-hot shooting performance from the perimeter carried 10th-ranked Blanchard to a 71-66 triumph over fifth-ranked Tecumseh Thursday night in a Class 4A area tournament losers’ bracket contest.
Blanchard, up 34-29 at the intermission, led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, only to see Tecumseh take a momentary lead. The Savages, by out-scoring Blanchard 23-18 in the third quarter, tied the game at 52 entering the final eight minutes.
Blanchard knocked down 57.8 percent (11-of-19) of its 3-point field-goal attempts. Zach Hill, who led Blanchard with 22 points, recorded three shots from 3-point range. Four other Blanchard players registered at least one trey.
For Tecumseh, Alan Brewer was the 3-point specialist with six en route to a 20-point night. Brewer netted three treys in Tecumseh’s third-quarter charge.
Julio Hukill led Tecumseh with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Savage Colton Owen garnered 10 rebounds to go with five points.
Blanchard was 13-of-21 from the free throw line while Tecumseh was 5-of-11.
Nelson Quade added 18 points for Blanchard and Logan Wright finished with 15.
“It was a hard-fought game,” Tecumseh coach Eric Litherland said. “They made a lot of shots. We fought back in the third quarter and took the lead.”
Tecumseh concluded the season at 23-5.
Concluding their Savage basketball careers were seniors Clayton Baquera, Darian Permetter, Dakota Davis, Ryan Smotherman, Hukill, Brewer and Owen.
