  • Shawnee Board of Education declared the Ward 7 seat vacant at their Tuesday night meeting, as no one filed for the seat in the February election.

The seat was previously held by David Parsons, however he chose not to run for reelection for the seat.

Because no one else filed for the seat, the school board declared the seat vacant. The board will accept applications for the seat, and if any are received, they will conduct interviews and appoint a member for Ward 7.

However, if after 60 days the board receives no applications for the seat, a special election will be held to fill the seat.

In order to apply for the Ward 7 seat, the person must be over 18 years old, must have lived in Ward 7 for at least six months, cannot work for the school district, and must hold a high school diploma or the equivalent.

Ward 7 includes most of Shawnee east of Highway 177. Additionally, those living in Shawnee north of Benson Park Road and east of Harrison Road may apply.

To the west of Highway 177, those who live north of Independence Street, east of Airport Road, and south of MacArthur Street may also apply.

Additionally, a portion of Shawnee east of Acme Road, north of Highway 177, and south of 45th Street is also in Ward 7.
