A late rally came up short for Tecumseh as the Savages opened their 2013 season on the short side of a 6-5 final against Perkins-Tryon Monday.
Tecumseh trailed 4-3 after the first inning before tying the score at 4 in the bottom of the fifth. The Demons led 6-4 after six frames, and Tecumseh managed to add only one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Perkins-Tryon out-slugged the hosts 10-8, and played errorless ball. The Savages suffered from four miscues.
Alan Brewer and Micah Sanchez led the Tecumseh offense with two hits apiece. Brewer notched a double and a single, and Conner Patton finished with a two-run single. Sanchez also drove in one run.
Patton went the distance on the mound.
Now 0-1, the Savages will go to Bethel for a 4:30 p.m. varsity/junior varsity doubleheader today.
