  • Senior Breck Clark, with 4.7 seconds to play, capped her game-high 25 points with a pair of free throws to seal Dale’s 34-32 win over Tonkawa in a Class 2A state quarterfinals encounter Thursday at Westmoore High School.
The Lady Pirates, who ended the regular season as 2A’s second-ranked team, led for much of the game before the fifth-ranked Lady Buccaneers closed the gap. Tonkawa went up by one late, and Clark drained Dale’s one and only connection from 3-point range to give the Lady Pirates a two-point advantage.
Tonkawa knotted the score at 32, and the Lady Pirates pilfered an inbound pass after Clark’s charity tosses to ice the win.
“I’m real proud of the girls’ character,” said DHS coach Josh Forsythe.
The Lady Pirates didn’t give in, Forsythe said, “and that makes me proud.”
“We weren’t willing to do that,” he said.
Dale led 7-3 after the first quarter, and 11-9 at halftime. The Lady Pirates were up 25-21 to start the fourth.
Dale hit 10 of 30 attempts from the floor for 30 percent, and the Lady Pirates were just 1-for-6 from 3-point range. They shined at the foul line, going 11-for-13 for 85 percent. Clark went 6-for-6 on free throws, and Danielle Dockrey went 4-for-4 in the third quarter for all of her points on the day.
Dockrey was a menace for Tonkawa defensively, pulling down 10 rebounds and holding their leading scorer to just two points on the day.
“Danielle did a phenomenal job defensively,” Forsythe said. “And the rest of the girls did a great job of covering and helping.”
The Lady Buccaneers were held to 11-for-28 shooting (35 percent) from the field, and they finished at 6-for-14 (43 percent) on free throws. Omega Reese led Tonkawa with 13 points.
Clark finished with eight rebounds, and Jaelin Flewallen notched four. Clark, Flewallen and Lexes Satterwhite each picked up two steals, and Satterwhite led Dale in assists with four. Flewallen had two assists, and Clark blocked two shots.
Dale improved to 28-1 and will take on Alva at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City. Alva knocked off Colbert 53-45 in the quarterfinals.
In other 2A state encounters Thursday, Northeast Academy defeated Preston 53-34, and Fairview edged Thomas-Fay-Custer, 44-43. NE Academy and Fairview will square off at noon today in the other semifinals match.
Dale defeated Fairview, 54-51, in an area title game March 1.
Tonkawa ends the season at 24-4.
