Three seventh-inning runs for Stroud were too much for Bethel to overcome Saturday as the Wildcats posted their first loss of the season, 5-2.
After a leadoff out in the seventh, the Tigers got a walk and two bunt singles to load the bases. Stroud’s Dalton Baade drove in all three baserunners with a double to deep right field.
Bethel (3-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Stroud took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning before the Wildcats tied the score with a run in the bottom of the frame.
The final-inning outburst made Brooks Richards the losing pitcher. The Bethel hurler went the distance, allowing five runs, seven hits, and three walks while recording eight strikeouts.
Garret Fitzgerald had Bethel’s only extra-base hit with a sixth-inning double. He also drove in a run earlier in the game.
Next on the Wildcats’ schedule is a varsity and JV visit to Prague on Monday.
