  • Tecumseh, Asher capture top swine awards

  • Asher and Tecumseh claimed the top swine awards in the county Junior Livestock Show.

    Contestants from Tecumseh and Asher captured the top honors in the swine competition of the Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show here this week.
     
    Blake Kennedy, a freshman at Tecumseh High School, and a member of the Tecumseh FFA chapter, claimed the grand championship swine award for the second consecutive year.
     
    Chase Eckart, a sixth grader at Asher and member of the Asher 4-H, showed the reserve grand champion swine.
     
    Kennedy and Eckart automatically qualified for the premium sale which was held Friday night, the event which concluded this year’s show.
     
    Kennedy also had shown the grand champion doe goat in the show earlier in the week and he had claimed the Intermediate goat showmanship award as well. He earned the Intermediate showmanship award in the swine competition too.
     
    Kennedy is the son of Regene and Todd Kennedy.
     
    Eckart, 12, is the son of Patrick Pierce and Amy Eckart. He’s in his third year of showing and this was third time for him to compete in the county Junior Livestock Show with the first time for him to place this high, he said.
     
    Kennedy’s grand champion swine award was sponsored by First United Bank Shawnee, First United Bank Tecumseh and Triangle Sales. His Intermediate swine showmanship award was sponsored by Shawnee Tag Agency & Don’s Plants.
     
    Eckart’s award was sponsored by Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau.
     
    Winning the senior showmanship honors in the swine competition was Lacie Underwood, a junior at Tecumseh High School and a member of the Tecumseh FFA chapter. Sponsoring her award was the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center.
     
    Seth Jackson, 12, and a sixth grader at Bethel Middle School and a member of the Bethel 4-H Club, won the junior showmanship honors in the swine competition. He’s the son of Mike and Hollie Jackson. His award was sponsored by Georg Fischer Central Plastics, LLC.
