Defendant pleads guilty to counterfeit charge.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, announced that Walter Louis Contreras, 37, of Bakersfield, Calif., pled guilty toUttering a Counterfeit Obligation.

Charges arose from an investigation by the Warner Police Department and the United States Secret Service. The defendant was indicted in February, 2013.

The Indictment alleges that on Feb.5,within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant herein, with the intent to defraud, did utter a forged and counterfeited Obligation of the United States, that is: One Counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve Note.

The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled following its completion.

The statutory range of punishment is not more than 20 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine. The defendant remains in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing.
