Class 5A’s 13th-ranked Shawnee improved to 5-4 overall and 5-3 in district play Saturday by taking both ends of a doubleheader from Guymon’s Tigers.
The Wolves won the opener 12-1 before recording a 6-0 shutout in the nightcap. Josh Rolette held the Tigers to one hit in the complete seven-inning effort in the second game.
Casey Bowlan went the distance in the first game, which was stopped after five innings on the run rule. He struck out five, hit two batsmen and issued one walk in picking up his first win of the season.
Of Shawnee’s nine hits, Colin Robertson, Landon Harper and Rolette notched two apiece and combined for four runs batted in.
Rolette’s start in the second game was his first of the season. He gave up one hit and one walk while fanning nine batters.
Offensively, Shawnee logged five singles.
“I was proud of the kids,” said SHS coach Todd Boyer.
Boyer said his group “handled themselves well” after facing the long drive.
“I was proud of them taking care of their business,” Boyer said. “And I thought Josh threw really well. He had total command of all of his pitches.”
The Wolves are off until hosting the Shawnee Festival March 22 and 23 at Memorial Park. Five games will be played Friday, March 22, beginning at 10 a.m., and the Wolves will begin their share of the festival at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, opposite Binger-Oney. They will face the OKC Broncos at 4:45 p.m. March 23.
