A Shawnee man who was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in 2011 on warrants involving lewd acts with a child has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in that case.
Robert Pernell Hurd, 47, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing this week in Pottawatomie County District Court, but the hearing was cancelled with the waiver. His case will now advance to the felony docket for arraignment, now scheduled April 17.
Hurd is charged with three felony counts of sexual abuse of a child under age 12.
He was formally charged Dec. 23, 2011, but a Pottawatomie County arrest warrant was initially issued for Hurd on Nov. 22, 2011. At that time, Hurd was being sought as part of a Tecumseh Police Department investigation into inappropriate sexual acts with his girlfriend’s child, police said.
Over the next month, intelligence gathered by Tecumseh and Shawnee police, along with district attorney’s investigators, led to U.S. Marshals raiding an Oklahoma City home in late 2011 to arrest Hurd in this case.
The child’s mother also has been arrested in this matter and her case involving charges of enabling sexual abuse is progressing through the court system.
