Behind quality pitching and hitting, top-ranked Dale improved to 8-0 Tuesday with a 9-0 whitewash of Tupelo.

The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings on the run rule.

Starter Tanner Nelson, who went the first four innings, surrendered one hit, a single. He fanned six and walked one.

Xavier Lanham, who came on in the fifth, fanned one, hit one and didn’t permit a hit.

No Tupelo runner advanced past second base.

Evan Anderson led off the Dale first inning with a home run, then drove in three more runs in the third via a double.

Pirate Chase Byndas had two hits, including a double. Taylor Smith went 2-of-3 with two singles and Gunner Hathcock claimed a triple.

Dale committed just one error.

“We played pretty well,” Dale head coach Jerry Sanford said. “It’s a process.”

Dale will participate in the McLoud Tournament Thursday through Saturday. Thursday, the Pirates will oppose Perkins-Tryon at 4 p.m. and McLoud at 6 p.m., according to Sanford.
