While services have been scheduled in Missouri for a Shawnee woman found shot to death in her home last week, the woman’s husband remains jailed on a first-degree murder complaint.
Graveside services for Cathy Ann (Haas) Byus, 35, will be 1 p.m. April 3 in the Southwest City, Mo., Cemetery.
Byus will be interred in the same cemetery as her parents, Gary and Linda Haas, the retired Tecumseh couple killed while vacationing in New Mexico in 2010.
Their deaths occurred in August 2010, just months after Cathy Byus and her husband married in May 2010.
Justin Byus, 25, remains jailed in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center in connection with his wife’s death. Formal charges have not yet been filed, but he is scheduled for another court appearance on April 5, jail records show.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled Cathy Byus’ official cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds, with the manner of death confirmed as homicide.
She was found dead in her Granada Estates home at 27 Bella Vista on the morning of March 21.
The arrest warrant in the case shows a friend of Justin Byus called police about 3:50 a.m. that day after receiving a call from Byus, who allegedly said he had shot and killed Cathy Byus.
Police, arrived at the home to find Justin Byus out in the yard of the residence, where he was detained and later arrested as part of the homicide probe.
The arrest affidavit shows the couple had reportedly fought earlier in the evening and Justin Byus told his friend he found text messages on his wife’s phone from another man when he returned home from an Oklahoma City strip club around 3 a.m. The court affidavit shows Cathy Byus was in bed when she was shot and killed.
While her parents preceded her in death, a few aunts and uncles, most of them living out of state, survive Cathy Byus, along with her son, James Byus, a toddler.
