Stalwart hitting and pitching carried top-ranked Dale to triumphs over Perkins-Tryon (12-0) and McLoud (11-1) Thursday at the McLoud Tournament.
Dale needed just four innings to dispose of Perkins-Tryon as Jace Wikins improved to 3-0 with a one-hitter. Wilkins fanned two and didn’t issue a walk. He also chipped in offensively with two singles.
Dale scored four runs in the top of the second, then exploded for eight more in the fourth.
Spearheading Dale’s 13-hit attack was Evan Anderson with two home runs — a three-run shot and a solo effort — both of which came in the fourth. Dale coach Jerry Sanford said Anderson, who is headed for the University of Mississippi, has six home runs on the season.
Taylor Smith added a two-run homer in the fourth while Tanner Nelson chalked up three hits, including a double. Pirate Xavier Lanham was credited with a double and a single.
Dale also required just four innings against McLoud after scoring 10 runs in the third. Smith earned the pitching victory (2-0) by allowing one single, whiffing seven and walking two.
Smith also posted a three-run HR in the third.
Dale accumulated 10 hits, including a triple and a double by Wilkins. Colt Manship cranked a three-run home run in the third.
Dalton Tillison manged two singles as the Pirates improved to 10-0.
“We swung it really well,” Dale coach Jerry Sanford said. “We also pitched it well with just two walks in eight innings. You can’t beat that.”
Dale will continue McLoud Tournament play at 8 p.m. today opposite Blanchard.
