Senator Ron Sharp, R-Shawnee, has recommended reappointment of longtime Pottawatomie County Election Board Secretary Diana Knight for another two-year term.
Knight, who has served as the county’s election board secretary since 1991, has been with that office for the past 35 years, beginning her career as the assistant election board secretary in 1977.
Knight said she’s ready for another two-year term.
“I’m excited — it was nice of him to reappointment me,” she said.
Knight, who is also one of the state’s eight regional election board secretaries, travels to counties around the state to help election boards with training, which she also enjoys.
Sharp, in his first term as senator, said he was honored to reappoint Knight.
“Constituents were very supportive of Diana Knight,” Sharp said. “She does an outstanding job.”
Sharp said he also heard many complimentary things about Knight from Paul Ziriax, who is the state’s election board secretary.
Ziriax, who spoke of Knight’s work as a regional coordinator, said she is “one of the best secretaries in the entire state.”
“We’re proud of Diana…it’s people like her that make Oklahoma one of the best election systems,” he said.
Ziriax said with the official recommendation from Sharp, the state’s election board will meet Friday to officially vote on the appointment.
