  • TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A federal judge has found that an Illinois man accused of plotting to firebomb dozens of Oklahoma churches is incompetent to stand trial.

Wednesday's ruling from U.S. Magistrate Paul J. Cleary in Tulsa means Gregory Arthur Weiler II will undergo more evaluation and possible treatment.

The 24-year-old Elk Grove, Ill., man is accused of planning to destroy 48 churches in northeastern Oklahoma. He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of one count of possessing an unregistered, destructive device. The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Weiler's attorney has said his client has been diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder.

During Wednesday's hearing, Weiler gave a brief, rambling speech before a court official pulled away his microphone.
