  • Class 2A top-ranked Dale dropped its first game of the season Friday as Ponca City pulled off a 7-3 victory at the Shawnee Showdown at Memorial Park.

Dale (14-1) enjoyed its only lead at 2-1 on Evan Anderson’s two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning. Ponca City added two runs in the top of the second, then — with the score tied at 3 — strung together five runs in the seventh.

Anderson, the starting pitcher, struck out 10 and walked four in a 6 1/3-inning stint. Anderson also hit two batters.

Reliever Jace Wilkins walked three batters in a 2/3-inning outing.

Dale was limited to four hits and made two errors. Xavier Lanham and Hunter Pinkston of Dale supplied a double apiece.

“We have pitched horribly the last few days,” Dale coach Jerry Sanford said. “We had nine free passes today and eight or nine yesterday. We didn’t pitch it well, our hitting was terrible and our defense wasn’t very good.”

Dale will continue Shawnee Showdown action at 12:30 p.m. today opposite Western Heights.
