  • PRAGUE, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma City police say an officer left paralyzed after trying to break up a bar fight two years ago has died of injuries suffered in an auto crash on Interstate 40.

Capt. Dexter Nelson says Officer Chad Peery died Monday afternoon following Sunday's crash near Prague.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Peery was a passenger in a van with his caretaker and four juvenile relatives when the van blew a rear tire, then went off the road and rolled three times.

The OHP says the four children aged 5 to 13 and the driver are all hospitalized in stable condition.

Peery was left in a wheelchair in 2011 after he was beaten during a bar dispute in which he tried to intervene.
