Bethel’s Lady Wildcats earned a Class 5A district crown Friday by winning three games — 13-3 over Perkins-Tryon and 12-11 and 13-1 over Chandler.
The tournament was moved from Thursday to Friday because of wet grounds following Wednesday’s heavy rains.
Cherokee Moore went 2-for-3 with two doubles in the win over Perkins-Tryon, and one of those doubles was good for two runs. Bayli Miller was 3-for-3 for the victors, and teammates Meghan Tade and Cati Caro notched two hits and a sacrifice fly apiece.
The game was stopped after five innings on the run rule.
Bethel’s first game opposite Chandler went an extra inning after the score was knotted at 10 in the seventh. Chandler, playing as the visiting team, scored the go-ahead run in the top of the extra frame before the Lady Wildcats closed it out with two runs of their own.
Tade and Tayler Short each got on via singles, and following a flyout by Caro, Rachel Wade clubbed a shot into deep right field that allowed Tade to score from second. Short then scored the winning run on the same play on an errant throw to third.
Bethel out-hit the Lady Lions 16-9 in the two teams’ second meeting Friday. Short and Caro ripped back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning — Short’s being a two-run shot and Caro’s being a solo.
Short, Caro and Tade finished with three hits apiece, and Moore went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The game was stopped after six innings.
Now 14-8 and ranked 10th in Class 5A, Bethel will travel to Tecumseh Monday for a three-way contest with Tecumseh and Noble. The Lady Wildcats will learn of their regional assignment next week.
