  • Despite doling out nine walks, Evan Anderson limited Class 6A second-ranked Yukon to just two singles Friday night as Dale registered a 4-2 victory.

Anderson fanned eight as Dale, the top-ranked team in 2A, upped its record to 21-3. Anderson, who has committed collegiately to Mississippi, also hit two batters but overcame three Dale errors.

“We gave them 14 free baserunners and still won,” Dale head coach Jerry Sanford said. “Evan didn’t throw the ball well early but as the game went on, he got better and better.

“He is liable to walk three batters but then strike out three straight. His margin of error is greater than most pitchers. He pitched it well when he needed to. I’m glad he’s pitching for us.”

Anderson also excelled at the plate. He doubled to lead off the game, then scored on Taylor Smith’s double for a 1-0 lead.

After Yukon scored both of its runs in the second, Anderson’s solo home run in the fifth tied the game at 2. Smith added a solo HR in the sixth and the Pirates added an insurance run in the seventh.

Dale finished with eight hits as Tanner Nelson chalked up two singles.

“I will take the win but we have some things to clean up,” Sanford said.

Dale will be home against McLoud at 4 p.m. Monday.
