Shawnee suffered two McAlester Tournament setbacks Friday — 9-6 to Duncan and 5-3 to Pryor — causing Class 5A’s No. 11 Wolves to fall to 13-11 on the season.
No. 14 Duncan burned up all of its runs in the first three innings and led the Wolves 9-1 in the third. Shawnee’s rally was snuffed out after three runs came across in the top of the fifth and two more were scored in the top of the sixth.
The Wolves were out-hit, 10-6, and all of Shawnee’s knocks were singles. Josh Rolette and Brock Maldonado each went 1-for-4, and Austin Cooper was 1-for-3. Cameron Hilderbrand was 1-for-2, and Logan Franklin — at 2-for-2 — was Shawnee’s only multiple hitter of the contest.
Rolette absorbed the pitching loss in three innings of work. He struck out two and walked two in falling to 2-1.
Casey Bowlan picked up a triple and a double and drove in two runs while going 2-for-3 against Pryor. Rolette, in going 1-for-3, also got a double, and he scored twice.
Cooper was 2-for-4 and scored once.
The two teams matched scored for the first three innings and were tied at 3 going into the fourth. Pryor ended the scoring there with two runs.
The Wolves committed three miscues while Pryor played errorless.
Maldonado was hit with the pitching loss and fell to 1-2. He gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out one and walked two in 4 1/3 innings.
Kyler Rogers struck out four and didn’t issue a walk in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Shawnee will go to Western Heights for a 5 p.m. game Monday.
