  • SHS girls third at conference tourney

  • Shawnee’s Lady Wolves were third as a team Monday at the Suburban Conference Tournament at the OKC Tennis Center.

  • Shawnee’s Lady Wolves were third as a team Monday at the Suburban Conference Tournament at the OKC Tennis Center.
     
    Meagan Hanson and Meg Reeder, at the singles spots, each went 2-1 on the day and finished second. Hanson (No. 1 singles) defeated Tresa Nguyen from Western Heights (6-1, 6-0) and Krista Waggoner from Carl Albert (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) before suffering a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Deer Creek’s Kelsi Williams.
     
    At No. 2 singles. Reeder picked up wins over Carl Albert’s Cassidi Gooch (6-0, 6-3) and Guthrie’s Heidi Kuruville (6-3, 6-3) before losing in three sets (7-5, 6-2, 6-3) to Deer Creek’s Karlee Tate.
     
    At No. 2 doubles, Shawnee’s Shelbe Fennell and Kaylan Storie were also 2-1 and finished third. They defeated pairs from Piedmont (7-6, 7-6) and Deer Creek (6-2, 7-6).
     
    At No. 1 doubles, Shawnee’s McKenzie Lumry and Emily Stobbe were 2-1 and finished fifth. They defeated duos from El Reno (6-1, 6-2) and Western Heights (6-3, 6-3).
     
    Shawnee’s boys were sixth on the day as No. 2 singles entrant Chase Wood and No. 1 doubles members Bryce Dowhower and Zach Fisher each finished fifth. Wood went 1-1 with a win over Chickasha’s Kyle Woodard (6-2, 6-2), and Dowhower and Fisher logged wins over El Reno (6-0, 6-2) and Western Heights (6-0, 6-4).
     
    Montana Sellers at No. 1 singles, and Daniel Anderson and Jordan Wissman at No. 2 doubles, each went 0-2 on the day for sixth place.
     
    Shawnee will host the Shawnee “Nick Birchett Invitational” Friday and Saturday. The girls will compete Friday, and the boys will compete Saturday.
