Shawnee’s varsity boys finished with 316 points Monday and first place in the Shawnee Invitational at the Shawnee Golf and Country Club.
In a reversal of results from last year’s Class 5A state championship match, Class 5A’s defending state runner-up Wolves topped reigning champion Tulsa Kelley Monday. Kelley logged 319 points at the Shawnee Invitational, while Tahlequah finished third at 327.
Shawnee’s Morgen Pettigrew came away with a 76 and fourth place Monday, and teammates Garrett McDaniel and Daniel Langley were also in the top 10 with 79 each. Ryan Epperly finished with an 82, and Cole Humphrey shot an 85.
The junior varsity Wolves also competed Monday and finished ninth out of 19 teams. Braden Ricks led Shawnee with an 88, and Creighton Kathol shot an 86. Jack Barrick finished with a 92; Aaron Yount a 99; Tristan McIntosh a 103; and Manuel Gonyou a 104.
The varsity Wolves will go Thursday to the Guthrie Blue Jay Bash — a 36-hole tuneup for a 5A regional tournament that will be held Monday, April 29, at the Shawnee Golf and Country Club.
