Class B’s second-ranked Asher got a two-hit pitching performance from Zach Fowler Monday, and the Indians picked up a 7-2 win over Meeker’s Bulldogs.
Fowler improved to 3-2 while giving up both of Meeker’s runs. In a five-inning stint, he struck out 10 and issued only two walks.
Caleb Dubler, who finished offensively with a single, a double and a run batted in, threw two innings of relief. He didn’t surrender a hit while fanning three batters and walking two.
Tim Johnson came up big at the plate for the Indians, clubbing a three-run home run in the first inning. Asher led 5-0 after two frames.
The Indians finished with six hits, and committed two errors to Meeker’s one.
Tyler Henry absorbed the pitching loss for the Bulldogs.
Asher will go to Stonewall Thursday for a four-team regional tournament. The Indians will oppose Boswell at 1 p.m.
The regional will continue Friday, and the if-necessary game would be held Saturday.
