  • Class 2A’s top-ranked Dale forged a 5-4 lead Friday before the rain put a halt to a varsity encounter with 3A’s No. 1 Verdigris.

Dale led 2-0 after two innings, and 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. Verdigris scored twice in the bottom of the fifth before the weather moved in.

Lane Cox smacked a two-run home run in the fifth for Dale (23-4), and Xavier Lanham finished with a double as Dale out-hit the hosts 8-3. Tanner Nelson finished at 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, and Colt Manship was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly.

    Both teams played errorless.

Evan Anderson pitched the win. He struck out eight and walked six while moving to 6-1.

Weather permitting, the Pirates will go to Southmoore at 2 p.m. today. Dale, after receiving a district bye, will learn of its regional assignment next week.
