Oklahoma Baptist split its Strikeout Cancer Doubleheader with St. Gregory’s, winning the opener 2-0 and falling 5-4 in the second game Thursday at Lady Bison Park.
Hannah Wilbur (11-4) took the strikeout theme to heart, fanning a career-best 12 in her complete-game, two-hit shutout of the No. 13 Lady Cavaliers. She threw 121 pitches to get the victory.
OBU got its only two runs in the fourth when Krystal Johnson singled and scored on LeNae Sanchez’s eighth home run of the season. The Lady Bison had eight hits in the game, including two by Sanchez.
St. Gregory’s scored in the top of the first of Game 2, getting a two-out three-run home run by Caitlin O’Hagan.
The Lady Cavaliers went up 4-0 in the third when Melanie Gladden reached on an error and scored on a triple by Whitney Anderson.
Noelle McDowell allowed one unearned run over the final four innings to keep OBU in the game.
The Lady Bison got on the scoreboard with an RBI triple by Amanda Harmon to make it 4-1.
OBU scored three in the sixth on a two-out, bases-loaded single by Dara Gray for three RBI. Sanchez doubled to left, but the Lady Bison left runners at second and third.
Kasey Maddox was nearly the hero in the bottom of the seventh, but her two-out double hit high off the left field wall and stayed in play and Devon Frazier (17-3) got the final out on a groundout.
OBU had six hits in the game, including two each by Gray and Maddox.
Now 29-20 overall and 10-12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, OBU plays at St. Gregory’s Saturday at 1 p.m. to end the regular season. SGU is 31-12 overall and 12-10 in the conference.
