Down 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Bethel was within one out of seeing its season concluded.
But Cati Caro blasted a game-tying three-run home run and the Lady Wildcats went on to defeat Kellyville 7-6 in eight innings Thursday for a runner-up finish at a Class 5A regional tournament.
With the comeback win and a 2-1 regional day, Bethel advances to its fifth straight slow-pitch state tournament. The tournament is slated for Wednesday at Oklahoma City’s ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tariah Brooking doubled. After a walk to Shelby Miller and an Ashley Elmore single loaded the bases with one out, Brittany Freeman’s sacrifice fly to right center provided the winning run.
Brooking and Meghan Tade fashioned two singles apiece. Tayler Short added a double and a single.
Bethel was down 6-0 against Kellyville when it scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Wildcats opened the day with a 10-7 win over Little Axe. Caro led the way with four singles while Cherokee Moore had a three-run homer in the sixth for a 10-2 lead. Rachel Wade had a double and a single while Tade and Miller provided two singles apiece.
Bethel then dropped a 9-2 decision to Berryhill as Caro had a double.
The Lady Wildcats are 18-9.
