  • Lady Wolves take conference title, Wolves finish fourth

  • Class 5A’s defending state champion Shawnee Lady Wolves reaped the Suburban Conference crown Friday, April 26, at Deer Creek High School, out-scoring runner-up Deer Creek by more than a dozen points.

  • Class 5A’s defending state champion Shawnee Lady Wolves reaped the Suburban Conference crown Friday, April 26, at Deer Creek High School, out-scoring runner-up Deer Creek by more than a dozen points.
    The Lady Wolves — who got nine first-place finishes on the day — ended the meet with 195.5 points. Deer Creek’s Lady Antlers were second at 182, and Guthrie was third at 86.
    On the boys’ side, Shawnee was fourth as a team with 58 points. The host Antlers were SC champs at 248, and Carl Albert was runner-up at 129. Guthrie, with 114 points, was third.
    For the Lady Wolves, Paige Hughes each notched two first-place outings. Hughes was first in the 800-meter run at 2:32.23, and she was first in 1,600-meter run at 5:43.90.
    Robinson was champion in both the 100 hurdles (15.81 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (45.68 seconds).
    Kelsey Simmons was first in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.43, and Daylan Storie (12:53.33) and Katelynn Downs (13:01.37) were second and third, respectively, in the 3200 run.
    Maddie Rutherford, at 49.8 seconds, was second in the 300-meter hurdles.
    The Lady Wolves were first in three of the day’s relay events. Robinson, Allegra Sloan, Simmons and Adrein Sloan teamed up for a top time of 1:47.21 in the 200 relay, and Simmons, Rutherford, Allegra Sloan and Robinson took first in the 400 relay at 4:08.32.
    Hughes, Blair Johnson, Sadie Cullison and Simmons were first in the 800 relay at 10:22.07.
    In the field events, Vanz Hurst was first in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches. Rutherford was second at a even 9 feet, and Tiffany Gardner was third in the long jump at 15-9.
    For the Wolves, Javon York was first in the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches, and he was third in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches.
    Malik Sharp was third in the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 2 inches.
    The Wolves were fourth in the 100 relay and the 800 relay. Chris Martin, Brett Harris, Devon Watts and Shadrach Smith finished the 100 in a time of 44.46 seconds, and Josh Waite, Seth Maston, Tyler Day and Mark Roselius ran the 800 in 8:54.45.
    Smith was fourth in the 100 dash at 11.35 seconds, and he was fourth in the 200 dash at 23.9 seconds.
    Shawnee will compete in the Class 5A regional meet Saturday at Norman.
